On September 1, PresidentMa Huaide met at CUPL’s Haidian Campus with Christophe Champod, President-designate of the University of Lausanne, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law, Criminal Justice and Public Administration, and Dean of the School of Criminal Justice, at CUPL’s Haidian Campus. The meeting was chaired hosted by Lu Chunlong.

President Ma Huaide warmly welcomed Prof. Champod back to CUPL and extended sincere congratulations on his upcoming appointment as President of the University of Lausanne. He reviewed the fruitful achievements of substantialoutcomes achievedin bilateral cooperation in evidence science, law, and other fields since the two universities signed a cooperation agreement in 2012, and highly praised the exemplary role played by the China-Switzerland Joint Research Center for Evidence Law and Forensic Science in promoting academic exchanges and cooperation in higher education between the two countries. Ma Huaide emphasized that CUPL attaches great importance to its strategic partnership with the University of Lausanne. He put forward constructive proposals on further deepening cooperation in faculty exchange, student exchangefaculty and student exchanges, joint doctoral training, and disciplinary research. He also suggested jointly establishing the “China–Francophone Legal Education Alliance”, building an institutional platform for legal education cooperation with Francophone countries. Prof. Champod expressed his gratitude for CUPL’s warm reception. He stressed that the University of Lausanne attaches great importancetovalues its partnership with CUPL, which has become an important channel for Swiss students to learn about China. He introduced the disciplinary strengths and institutional settings framework of the University of Lausanne in the fields of international law and comparative law, and positively responded to CUPL’s proposals on expanding areas of cooperation. He suggested that the two universities build on their existing resources and expertise to establish a China-Switzerland Comparative Law Research Institute, expanding thereby extendingcooperation from evidence science to broader areas of law, and setting a new model for Sino-Swiss legal cooperation.

During the meeting, Peng Wenhua, Dean of the Institute of Evidence Law and Forensic Science, introduced the achievements and future plans of cooperation between CUPL and the University of Lausanne. Wang Wei, Vice Dean of the Academy for the Foreign-related Rule of Law, proposed initiatives on collaborating with high-level Francophone universities and strengthening cooperation in international arbitration. The meeting was also attended byProf. Wang Yuanfeng of the Institute of Evidence Law and Forensic Science, Chinese liaison of the China-Switzerland Joint Research Center for Evidence Law and Forensic Science, together with LvLyu Yong, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and Tang Yan, Deputy Director of the same office, also attended the meeting.
