Assistant Vice Chancellor of University of Exeter Li Li and Her Delegation Visit CUPL

In the morning of March 9, at Haidian Campus, Vice President Shi Jianzhong met with Li Li, Assistant Vice Chancellor for International Cooperation of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Exeter, UK.

Prof. Shi Jianzhong, on behalf of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), first extended a warm welcome to the delegation of University of Exeter for their visit to CUPL, noting that the meeting re-activated the offline communication between CUPL and its overseas partner universities. Later, Prof. Shi introduced CUPL to the guests, including disciplines, internationalization strategy, academic research, talent cultivation, as well as its outstanding performance in China Discipline Evaluation (CDE) and global rankings in recent years. Also, Prof. Shi stressed that the communication between universities is a component of people-to-people communication between countries. Strengthening the exchanges and dialogues among scholars and promoting inter-university mobility of students are the most practical foothold for deepening cooperation. He hoped that on the basis of sound cooperation for many years, the two universities could take this meeting as an opportunity to strive for tangible progresses and achievements in expanding disciplinary cooperation, building a cooperative platform for disciplinary development, creating opportunities for resource sharing, and exploring new models for joint training of talents, with a view to make due contributions to cultural exchanges between China and the United Kingdom.

Prof. Li Li thanked CUPL for its hospitality, and commended CUPL for its critical role in legal education in China and in the advancement of the rule of law in China. In particular, Prof. Li exalted the positive attitude of CUPL in international cooperation and humanistic care for international partners. She then briefed the discipline setup and faculty features of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Exeter, as well as the university's new international strategy led by Vision 2030. She hoped that the two universities could deepen cooperation in academic research, faculty exchange, and postgraduate/PhD degree programs, to provide a broader communication platform for students and teachers of both universities.

Prof. Li Juqian, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, CUPL, said that the two universities signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in 2008 and renewed the cooperation agreement in 2020. The two sides have carried out effective cooperation in postgraduate degree scholarship programs, short-term summer courses, study abroad programs in China, as well as faculty visits and lectures. It is expected that the two universities will continue their productive cooperation with full resumption of offline exchanges.

In the morning of the same day, representatives from the University of Exeter held talks respectively with Prof. Jiao Hongchang, Dean of the School of Law, Prof. Zhang Li, Vice Dean of the School of Law, and Prof. Ren Hongsheng, Vice Dean of the School of Political Science and Public Administration of CUPL to exchange views on how to deepen the existing cooperation between the two universities, as well as on developing cooperation on teacher visits and lectures, student exchange programs, etc.
