On the afternoon of November 18, the 12th Board Meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (CI at UB), Romania, co-established by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) and the University of Bucharest (UB), was successfully held. The meeting adopted a hybrid format, combining online and offline participation. Marian Preda, Rector of UB; Ma Huaide, President of CUPL; Lu Chunlong, Vice President of CUPL; and other Chinese and Romanian board members attended the meeting, which was chaired by Vice President Lu.

President Ma extended a warm welcome to the UB delegation on behalf of CUPL. He reflected on the significant achievements of the CI at UB over the past year in Chinese language education, cultural events, and research. Ma expressed heartfelt gratitude to both Chinese and Romanian directors for their dedication and to the board members for their steadfast support. Ma also congratulated the CI for its 20th anniversary. He noted that President Xi Jinping had recently sent a congratulatory letter to the World Chinese Conference. Guided by the spirit of this letter, CUPL is committed to redoubling its support for the CI at UB and looks forward to deepening exchanges and collaboration with UB, enhancing mutual understanding and trust, and making more positive contributions to cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Romania.
Rector Preda fully acknowledged the CI’s achievements and expressed his gratitude for CUPL’s long-standing support. He recognized the vital role of the CI as a bridge for cooperation and exchange between China and Romania. Preda reaffirmed UB's commitment to supporting the CI and extended a sincere invitation to President Ma and board members to visit the UB next year, hoping to expand collaboration into more areas through in-person exchanges.
According to the agenda, the meeting proceeded with an introduction of changes to the board members, and newly appointed members were welcomed. During the work report session, Chinese Director Su Yu and Romanian Director Luminita Balan jointly presented a summary of the CI’s work over the past year, a work plan for the coming year, and the annual financial budget and final accounts. The board reviewed and approved these reports and engaged in in-depth discussions on advancing the CI’s development, academic cooperation, and faculty exchanges, reaching a consensus on these initiatives.

Finally, President Ma presented the Commemorative Medal to Luminita Balan, appreciation for her significant contributions to the CI at UB and her dedication to fostering cultural exchanges between China and Romania.
