13th Board Meeting of Confucius Institute at University of Bucharest, Romania Convened

On the morning of September 25 (local time), the 13th Board Meeting of the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (CIUB) was convened in the Rector’s Office of the University of Bucharest. Conducted in a hybrid format, the meeting brought together board members including Prof. Marian Preda, Rector of the University of Bucharest, and Prof. Ma Huaide, President of China University of Political Science and Law and other directors. It was chaired by Prof. Luminița Bălan, Romanian co-director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest.

On behalf of the University of Bucharest, Marian Preda extended a warm welcome to the delegation from China University of Political Science and Law. He expressed gratitude for CUPL’s longstanding support and spoke highly of the achievements made by CIUB over the past year. He emphasized that the University of Bucharest has always placed great importance on inter-university exchange and cooperation across various fields, including education, research, and culture. After more than a decade of development, CIUB has established itself as a prominent Chinese education brand in Romania, having not only cultivated successive generations of Chinese language professionals but also significantly strengthened mutual understanding and friendship between the peoples of both countries.

In his address, Ma Huaide commended the Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (CIUB) for its distinctive development path and remarkable progress in promoting Chinese language education and cultural exchange over the past decade. He expressed his appreciation for the dedicated work of the Chinese and Romanian co-directors and the strong support of all board members. Looking ahead, he expressed his hope that CIUB would continue to break new ground and pursue higher-quality breakthroughs. Ma reaffirmed CUPL’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Confucius Institute and expressed hope that both universities would build on their existing partnership to pioneer new initiatives for cultivating more high-caliber talent with cross-cultural competencies, thereby contributing more substantially to cultural exchange and mutual learning between China and Romania.

The meeting began with an acknowledgment of the new Chinese board members and a welcome to the newly appointed directors. During the reporting session, the Institute’s Chinese Co-Director Su Yu and Romanian Co-Director Luminița Bălan jointly reported on the 2025 work summary, the 2026 work plan, and the annual budget. The Board reviewed and approved the aforementioned reports. Furthermore, thorough discussions were held on measures to further promote the Institute’s development, advance academic cooperation, and facilitate faculty and student exchanges, with a consensus reached on these matters.

Also in attendance were Luo Zhimin, Director of the CUPL Academic Affairs Office; Lyu Yong, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange; Zhao Peng, Director of the School of Law-Based Government CUPL; and Wang Wei, Vice Dean of the Academy of Foreign-Related Rule of Law CUPL.
