The launch ceremony for Modern Languages 2: Chinese (Romanian Edition) — the first set of locally-developed Chinese textbook for Romanian secondary schools, edited by China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL) — was held at the Embassy of Romania in China on the afternoon of September 29. The event was addressed by distinguished guests including Dan-Horia Maxim, Romanian Ambassador to China; Yu Tianqi, Deputy Director-General of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) of the Ministry of Education; Tan Fangzheng, Editor-in-Chief of Higher Education Press; and Lu Chunlong, CUPL Vice President.

Vice President Lu Chunlong delivered a speech
Modern Languages 2: Chinese represents a milestone as the first locally-developed Chinese textbook officially incorporated into Romania's national secondary education curriculum. Its publication fills a critical gap in systematic Chinese language teaching resources and marks a significant achievement in the “localization and country-specific development” of international Chinese language education. The textbook was co-edited by Professor Li Li, former Chinese Director of CUPL’s Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest in Romania (CIUB), and Luminița Bălan, Romanian Co-Director of CIUB.
In his speech, Vice President Lu Chunlong conveyed CUPL’s warm congratulations on the textbook’s publication and sincere appreciation to the compilation team, publishers and supporting institutions. He highlighted that the four-year development process had culminated in a work embodying the collective wisdom of Chinese and Romanian scholars, demonstrating CUPL's commitment to advancing international Chinese language education and supporting China's opening-up initiatives. He also emphasized that language serves as a bridge for mutual learning among civilizations, with Confucius Institutes representing exemplary models of international educational cooperation, and reaffirmed CUPL’s dedication to leveraging its expertise in promoting cross-cultural linguistic exchanges.

CUPL has long prioritized international Chinese language education as a key driver for advancing the university’s internationalization. Since 2012, the university has co-established three Confucius Institutes in the UK, Romania, and Barbados successively, which collectively oversee nine Confucius Classrooms. CUPL has also participated in the Confucius Institute at the University of Bergen during different phases of its development. Over the past decade, CUPL has actively promoted the development of Confucius Institutes, contributing to enhancing mutual learning among civilizations and deepening people-to-people bonds. The successful launch of this set of locally-developed Chinese textbooks represents another milestone achievement stemming from CUPL's dedicated work in international Chinese language education.
