Vice President of University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, Barbados and His Party Visit CUPL

In the morning of December 7, 2016, Prof. Gao Huanyue, Vice Chair of CUPL Council met with Clive Landis, Vice President of the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, Barbados, at the Xueyuanlu Campus. Francois Jackman, Foreign Co-Director of the Confucius Institute (CI) at Barbados, and Song Qingbao, Chinese Co-Director of the CI at Barbados also participated in the meeting.

Prof.Gao Huanyue first extended a sincere welcome to Landis and briefly introduced the current situation, features and advantages of CUPL. She said that the CI, jointly established by UWI and CUPL in 2015, had achieved tremendous development, which was impossible without the strong support from UWI at Cave Hill as well as the hard work of the two directors. For that reason, she expressed her heartfelt gratitude and hoped that the two universities would enjoy a closer cooperation on the basis of the CI.

Landis expressed his joy about the visit to CUPL, and conveyed greetings on behalf of Eudine Barriteau, University President, David Berry, Dean of Law School and other delegates who visited CUPL in the first half of this year. Landis gave a general introduction of UWI and stressed its cultural influence in the Caribbean region in particular. Landis also said that it was a great pleasure to co-establish the CI with CUPL. He hoped to take this opportunity to further promote mutual understanding and advance cooperation in various projects.

Then the two sides conducted in-depth discussions. They finally reached consensus concerning the 3rd Confucius Institute Council Meeting, the Caribbean-China Institute of Law, the UWI–CUPL Moot Court Competition, the translation of masterpieces of Caribbean culture, and other projects. The meeting ended in a friendly atmosphere.

Yin Shudong, Director and Editor-in-chief of CUPL Press, Wang Zhuhao, Associate Professor of the Institute of Evidence Law and Forensic Science, Li Dandan, Director of the Confucius Institute Office also participated in the meeting.
