From December 6 to 7, 2015, the 10th Confucius Institute Conference was held in Shanghai. Over 2300 attendees were present at the meeting, among them were top administrators of foreign hosting universities and delegates of their Confucius Institutes (CIs) located in 134 countries and regions, foreign diplomats in China, representatives of those CIs’ Chinese partner universities as well as businessmen of Chinese enterprises. Prof. Ma Huaide, Vice-President of CUPL attended the Conference on behalf of our university. Delegates from CUPL’s three overseas CIs and their foreign hosting universities also took part in the meeting on invitation.
At the opening ceremony on December 6, Ms. Liu Yandong, Member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, Vice Premier of the State Council (China’s Cabinet) and Chair of the Council of Confucius Institute Headquarters delivered a speech. Besides awarding prizes to advanced units and individuals of CIs, she also handed out “Plaques of the Demonstration Unit” to selected CIs. The opening ceremony was hosted by Mr. Yuan Guiren, Minister of Education and Vice-Chair of the Council of Confucius Institute Headquarters.
During the Conference, Prof. Ma met with conferees from CUPL’s three overseas CIs and our foreign partner universities on the sidelines. He held an in-depth talk with them on achievements of those CIs in 2015 and their plans for the next year. Prof. Ma expressed his gratitude to our foreign university partners for their unfailing support to our overseas CIs and congratulated them on their notable growth and achievements during the past few years. He then attentively listened to the next year’s working plans reported by our CIs one after another.
