On the afternoon of May 22, 2015, at Xueyuanlu Campus, CUPL Vice-President Prof. Ma Huaide met with Prof. Jacques Frémont, Chairman of the Human Rights Commission of Quebec, and former Vice Rector of Université de Montréal (UdeM).
As it was his first day in assuming the post to manage CUPL’s foreign affairs, Prof. Ma was happy to receive an old friend from UdeM and expressed the willingness of our university to further its cooperation with UdeM. Prof.Ma reviewed the diversified and fruitful co-operations between the two universities over the past decade, including the establishment of successful exchange programs and degree programs for undergraduates, post-graduates and doctoral candidates. He further reviewed the co-operative summer training programs, academic studies and a scientific research institute co-founded by the two parties, the Sino-Canadian LawResearch Center.
Prof. Ma expressed how Prof. Frémont has made great contribution to these aforesaid co-operations. Prof. Ma further expressed his hope that Prof. Frémont could continue advancing the collaboration between CUPL and Canada on the studies of human rights while he is serving as the Chairman of Quebec’s Human Rights Commission.
Prof. Frémont remarked that he has witnessed the collaboration between the two sides developed from “its infancy” into “its burgeoning youth” since his first visit to CUPL in 1998. In particular, he pointed out that although UdeM has inked cooperative agreements with many internationally renowned universities, CUPL is one of the handful that have thoroughly implemented the signed agreements, thus establishing an excellent model of teamwork between CUPL and UdeM. Although he is no longer Vice Rector of UdeM, Prof. Frémont still promised to watch the development of the relationship between the two universities, and he has convinced the incoming Dean of UdeM Faculty of Law to always give priority to the collaboration with CUPL.
(CUPL VP Prof. Ma conferred a medal to Prof. Frémont)
After the meeting, Prof. Ma gave the Certificate of CUPL Friendship Award and Medal to Prof. Frémont on behalf of our university as an expression of gratitude for his outstanding service in establishing and implementing the cooperative agreements between the two sides.
