On September 15, 2015, faculty members of the Confucius Institute (CI) at the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, Barbados (UWI, Cave Hill), together with admission counselors of the University, promoted their enrollment programs in the Combermere School. They successfully kindled the students’ desire to enroll by showcasing the particular charm of Chinese language and culture through activities like displaying exhibits related to Chinese culture, conducting language interaction and handing out gifts to potential students.

More than two hundred students and teachers from the Combermere School participated in this campus recruitment event. The parts on Chinese language and culture staged by the Confucius Institute not only serve as the eye-catching curtain raiser of this event, but also its greatest spotlight.

At the end of the event, Chinese Co-Director of the CI, Prof. Song Qingbao, gave a souvenir specially prepared by his Institute to the principal of Combermere School. The principal expressed his gratitude to the Confucius Institute for its wonderful culture performance and hoped the two sides could explore more cooperative dimensions in the coming days.

This event symbolized both the initial step taken by the Confucius Institute outside the campus of UWI, Cave Hill and its genuine effort to integrate into the local community. The Marketing Officer of UWI, Cave Hill, Miss Janet Caroo, thought highly of the contribution the CI had made by participating in this event. She also hoped to further UWI, Cave Hill, cooperation with the Institute in the future. Through such teamwork in campus enrollment events like this, the two partners not only highlighted the University’s unique features of Chinese language and culture, but also enhanced the Institute’s reputation among the locals. Undoubtedly, a win-win situation will be attained through this type of interactive cooperation.
