The CUPL Office of International Cooperation and Exchange hosted a Romanian Educator Delegation, organized in 2015 for the first time bythe Confucius Institute at the University of Bucharest (CI at UB), during its visit to Beijing and Xi’an from April 20 to April 30.
The delegation consisted of eleven members and was led by Prof. Xue Xiaojian, the Chinese co-director of CI at UB. Other notable delegates were Mr. ROMITA IUCU BUMBU, the Vice Rector of the University of Bucharest (UB), officials of Romanian Ministry of Education, Research,Youth & Sports, as well as Heads of five notable universities and high schools in that country.
On April 21, the delegation visited Confucius Institute Headquarters at Hanban. The staff from Hanban’s Division of European Confucius Institutes accompanied the delegation in visiting the Chinese Culture Experience Center, Chinese Language Teaching Resources and Confucius Institute Activities Pavilion on its first floor. After that, the delegates were invited to attend the welcoming meeting as well as the publicizing & experiencing activity on Chinese Tests.
On the morning of April 22, the delegation visited CUPL Xueyuanlu Campus. Gao Huanyue, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of CUPL, extended her warm welcome to the visitors. She reviewed the cooperation and exchange between CUPL and Romanian universities -- especially UB -- and expressed her hope that CI at UB could play the role of a bridge to develop a wide range ofinterscholasticcollaboration between the two sides. Mr. ROMITA IUCU BUMBU, Vice Rector of UB, expressed his gratitude for CUPL’s hospitality and the thoughtful arrangements. He not only took the chance to approve of the agreeable state of affairs in the Confucius Institute, but also affirmed the remarkable achievements of the Chinese co-director. At the end of the meeting, Gao Huanyue exchanged the inter-school agreement with UB Vice Rector on behalf of our university. According to that agreement, the two universities will start to send undergraduate and graduate students to further their studies on the other’s campuses in the second half of 2015.
After the meeting, the delegates took visitors’ seats in our international students’ class, and attended the lecture “theEducation System of China” delivered by Prof. Zhang Liying, Dean of CUPL School of International Studies. By using tools like vivid images, texts and comparative research methods, Prof. Zhang gave a detailed introduction on the differences between Chinese education and its foreign counterparts. Her energetic speech made the classroom lively and cheerful. After class, the delegates also talked with 3 Romanian students enrolled in our university, and acquired first hand information on their daily life on campus.
On the afternoon of April 22, the delegation visited Sanfan Chaoyang School attached to Beijing Normal University. The Party Secretary and Executive Principal, Mr. Li Jianwen, and his colleagues met with the delegates, and they briefed the guests on its school-running characteristics and its current situation. The delegation spoke highly of the outstanding achievements that this young school has acquired, and showed strong interest in its teaching methods and its curriculum. The two sides then held an in-depth talk on a topic of common interest --- management of education. After that,the delegation was shown around the campus and the library, observed the students’ activities, and experienced a sample of the calligraphy course. The friendly exchange came to an end in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere.
On the next morning, the delegation visited CUPL Changping Campus. Accompanied by the staff of our dean’s office, the delegates visited some of our practical teaching facilities, such as a live televised trial, touring the Moot Court rooms and visiting the reading room to search for case file copies, etc. All those vividly demonstrate our university’s advantages in legal education and its unique features in practical teaching. The delegation also paid a visit to our library. The Curator, Prof.Shi Jianzhong, guided our distinguished guests during the trip and gave a detailed introduction on the related information of the library, such as “FADA Library”, the lending room for Chinese books, the stacks of foreign language books and so on. Finally, Prof. Shi Jianzhong took a delightful group photo with the delegates to mark the special occasion.
On the same afternoon, the delegation visited Beijing Royal School (BRS). The guests was shown around the campus, then attended an English class and a course of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, and later had an informal discussion with the Head of BRS dean’s office and representatives of its teachers and students. The delegates gave BRS thumbs up for its internationalized level of school administration and its excellent teaching conditions, and also expressed their gratitude for their host’s hospitality. The two sides exchanged ideas on certain matters such as China-Romania education system, curriculum provision, talent cultivation, and so on.
From April 26 to 29, the delegation went to Xi’an for a visit.
This activity got full support from Hanban, aiming at promoting China-Romania culture exchange, increasing Romanians’familiarity and understanding of Chinese culture, as well as boosting Chinese language teaching and the Han Culture’s dissemination and popularization among the locals through a series of visits and culture experiences.
