On the afternoon of October 9, 2014, President Huang Jin was invited to the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) to meet with Hon. Ronald Jones, Barbadian Minister of Education, Science, Technology & Innovation (METI), and his party. Meanwhile, a Confucius Institute (CI) implementation agreement was signed by Huang Jin and Pedro L. V. Welch, Deputy Principal of the University of the West Indies (UWI at Cave Hill, Barbados) on the side.
Ma Jianfei, Secretary of the Party Committee (Director General Level) and Deputy Director-General of Hanban, Deputy Chief Executive of Confucius Institute Headquarters, first exchanged views with Ronald Jones on the latest development of friendly relations between the two countries, especially in the education sector. Both parties had high expectations for the upcoming completion of the CI.
Huang Jin indicated that CUPL was very happy to co-establish a CI with UWI at Cave Hill. Smooth cooperation between the two universities occurred in the context of a good relationship between the two countries. Currently, thanks to constant communication, joint efforts and multiple exchange visits between the partners, the two sides have built mutual trust and conducted in-depth discussions on matters concerning the creation of the CI. CUPL is preparing for the completion of the CI’s new building and its ensuing inauguration ceremony. Our university hoped that this would not only advance bilateral collaboration, but also propel forward friendly exchanges between the two countries.
Afterwards, Barbadian Minister of METI, Ronald Jones, and Secretary of the Party Committee of Hanban, Ma Jianfei, witnessed the signing of the implementation agreement between Huang Jin and his Barbadian counterpart.
The other Barbadian delegates presented at the ceremony were: Chelston W. D. Brathwaite, Barbadian Ambassador to China, Cecile Humphrey, Permanent Secretary of the Division of Education under the Barbadian Ministry of METI, etc. Heads of the related Divisions of Hanban (such as the Division of Development and Planning, the Division of Teachers, the Division of Volunteer Affairs, and so on), Zhang Xiuqin, the Chinese Co-Director of the aforesaid CI, and Xu Lan, Director of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange at CUPL also attended the signing ceremony.
