On the afternoon of May 20, 2014, at Xueyuan Lu Campus, President Huang Jin met with Masa Nagai, the Acting Director &Senior Legal Officer of the Division of Environmental Law & Convention (DELC) under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and his party.
During the meeting, Huang Jin remarked that substantial cooperation has been jointly carried out by CUPL and UNEP on multi-levels, such as the South-South cooperation in the field of environment law, the training programs for environmental officials, judges, lawyers, etc. He expressed his hope that Masa Nagai's visit would pave the way for further advances in their collaboration.
Masa Nagai expressed his happiness to visit our university, and briefed his hosts on the three major jobs undertaken by UNEP, including devoting itself to the development of global environmental laws, assisting the governments to improve their capacity to address problems concerning environmental resources, and how to spread related knowledge, to facilitate the exchange of information, to conduct the educational training, as well as to promote the signing of the environmental conventions in wider areas.
Two sides also made an in-depth discussion on areas of common interest and potential cooperation, and further exchanged their views related to the signing of the memorandum of understanding resolving to sign it in the near future.
