Deputies from the Delegation of the European Union to China Visit CUPL

On March 3, 2014, Vice-President Zhu Yong met with the deputies from the Delegation of the European Union to China at Xueyuan Lu Campus. The deputies were Lars Gronvald, Head of the Development & Cooperation Section under the EU Delegation, Matthias Reusing, the first secretary of the Diplomatic Mission, Rita Beatrice Cauli, the attaché, and their party. Xu Lan, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges at CUPL, Liu Fei, the Chinese Co-Dean of the China-EU School of Law (CESL), and Clements Richter, the European Executive Dean of CESL attended the meeting.

The two sides exchanged in-depth views on the matters concerning the operation of CESL.

Zhu Yong, on behalf of CUPL, expressed his gratitude to the EU Delegation for their efforts in supporting CESL. He reiterated his confidence in the sustainable, steady, and healthy development of CESL as well as his full support for the school. In addition, he pointed out that problems had arisen during the running of CESL. Resolution of these issues would rely in part on a greater degree of honesty and trust from both sides. Meanwhile, the constructive support from the EU Delegation at Beijing was also indispensable.

Lars Gronvald, on behalf of the EU Delegation expressed his thanks to CUPL for its full support for CESL’s development. He also congratulated the present Co-Deans on the achievements they had made thus far, as well as expressing his confidence, and that felt in the EU, in the smooth running of CESL in the future.

Afterwards, the two sides also exchanged views on certain specific matters related to the running of CESL, such as financing, management, the quality of its teachers, quality control for its academic content, as well as its sustainable development in the days to come.
