Dean of the School of Law at UCD and His Party Visit CUPL

On the afternoon of March 17, 2014, Vice-President Zhu Yong met with Prof. Colin Scott, Dean of the Sutherland School of Law at University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland, at Xueyuan Lu Campus. Prof. Wang Liming, assistant to the President of UCD, and Director of the Irish Institute for Chinese Studies (the UCD Confucius Institute for Ireland), were the accompanying visitors for the aforesaid Dean.

Zhu Yong firstly welcomed the delegation and extended his congratulations to these visiting friends because March 17 is St Patrick's Day, the National Day of Ireland. He gave a recap of the cooperation between the two sides in the past five years. This included a student exchange, the doctorate program funded by the China Scholarship Council (CSC), the joint cultivation program for doctoral candidates, the summer school program, amongst others. Meanwhile, he proposed that the collaboration on dual master degree program should be actively explored along with the continuous advancement of the aforementioned cooperation. Xu Shenjian, Vice Dean of the Law school at CUPL, also put forward suggestions concerning this proposal.

Prof. Scott mentioned that their master degree candidates can study in the school of law at UCD in the first semester, after which they can further their studies in another European university which had cooperation with UCD in the following semester. Moreover, he introduced the undergraduate degree program of BCL (Law & Chinese Studies) which was launched in 2014 by his school of law. Meanwhile, he expressed the hope that our university would provide assistance and arrangements for their students under that program. According to the program, those third-year students would study in China for one year.

Zhu yong remarked that students of UCD were warmly welcomed to study in CUPL and he hoped that both sides could vigorously implement and promote the cooperation of dual master degree program with a variety of methods.
