On the afternoon of December 2, 2013, H.E. Mr. Clifford Borg-Marks, the Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Republic of Malta to China, visited CUPL. President Huang Jin, on behalf of our university, warmly welcomed the ambassador’s second time visit.

Speaking in fluent Chinese, Mr. Clifford expressed his pleasure to visit CUPL once again, and updated the CUPL audience on current events of Malta as well as the status of the time-honored University of Malta (UM). According to Mr. Ambassador, UM is an embodiment of the spirit of that island country. He also expressed the hope that the two universities could establish cooperation and deepen mutual understanding.

Huang Jin stated that he was very much looking forward to trying to establish exchanges with universities and colleges in Malta, and recommended that UM establish cooperation with CUPL’s Center of Cooperative Innovation for Judicial Civilization at the initial point. Then Vice President Zhang Baosheng provided our distinguished guest with a brief introduction on the center, and expected to conduct the proposed cooperation with UM.

Soon afterwards, President Huang Jin awarded an honorary CUPL appointment letter of Guest Professor to Mr. Clifford.

After the talk, hosted by Zhang Baosheng, Mr. Clifford delivered a speech titled “IP Law in a Global Age – Creating a Leading-edge IP Practice”, and conducted a discussion between CUPL’s teacher and student representatives on the matters they are interested in.

Finally, Mr. Clifford wrote the following inscription in the guest book, “Congratulations for 50 years of contributions, and best wishes for the next 50 years of contributions to China and beyond!”
