From December 9 to 11, 2013, the plaque unveiling ceremony of the “Sino-Swiss Joint Research Centre of Evidence Science” and the lectures on Chinese evidence science were held at the University of Lausanne (UNIL), Switzerland. Prof. Zhang Baosheng, Joint-Director of the Center of Cooperative Innovation for Judicial Civilization (CCIJC) and Vice President of CUPL, Prof. Wang Shuyi, Joint-Director of the aforesaid CCIJC and Director of the Research Institute of Environmental Law (RIEL) of Wuhan University, along with other two delegates attended the events mentioned above.
Prof. Dominique ARLETTAZ, Rector of UNIL, delivered the opening remarks at the ceremony, extending his warm welcome to the Chinese delegation, and expressed his sincere congratulations on the establishment of the Sino-Swiss Joint Research Centre of Evidence Science. He voiced his hope to promote the intercollegiate cooperation in certain related areas such as the training of teachers, talent exchanges and academic cooperation through the platform of that Sino-Swiss Joint Research Centre. Soon afterwards, Prof. Zhang Baosheng, Co-director of CCIJC and Vice President of CUPL, introduced the mission and the developing situation of CCIJC.
After the ceremony, Vice President Zhang Baosheng and his party visited the Elysee Museum and Forensic Science Laboratories under the Institute of the Criminology and Criminal Law (Institut de Criminologie et de Droit Pénal/ICDP) of UNIL.
The Sino-Swiss Joint Research Centre of Evidence Science, established at UNIL, affiliated to the “2011 Plan”, is one of the overseas cooperative research centers co-founded by CCIJC and its foreign partner universities, and is characterized by its interdisciplinary studies of law and natural science. That center set up its own office at ICDP of the University of Lausanne. Prof. Zhang Baosheng, Co-director of CCIJC, and Prof. Piérre MARGOT, Dean of ICDP at UNIL, both served as the Directors of the Center.
On the afternoon of December 9 and 11, Prof. Zhang Baosheng and Prof. Chang Lin gave two lectures for teachers and students of the ICDP, respectively.
On the afternoon of December 10 and the morning of December 11, the two sides discussed the implementation details of the cooperation program between CCIJC and UNIL. After negotiations both sides agreed that they could initiate some cooperation projects in the near future, such as the exchange of professors, joint training of doctoral candidates, selecting and recommending candidates to study for doctorate at UNIL, joint training of master degree candidates, short-term exchanges of graduates for master’s degree, professional skill training for working staff, and taking turns to host the international seminar of Sino-Swiss Evidence Science starting in the early part of 2015.
On the morning of December 10 and the afternoon of December 11, the Chinese delegation also visited the forensic center in Lausanne and the police station of Vaud Canton. The Swiss side demonstrated its virtual anatomy technology, which is based on 3-D CT scanning method, and its use in routine autopsy work to the Chinese delegation. The level of their disciplinary development and their exquisite culture atmosphere deeply impressed the Chinese viewers.
