From October 9 to 12, 2013, CUPL Vice President Ma Huaide led a delegation to visit Bangor University, and attended China-EU Legal Forum and the Council Meeting of that university's Confucius Institute.
The Confucius Institute of Bangor University is the first of its kind established by CUPL, and is also the first one in the world with such distinctive legal aspects. Vice President Ma and his party were given a warm welcome by Mr. David, Foreign Executive Director of that Institute. Prof. Zhang Liying, the Chinese Co-Director of the Institute, showed the delegation around the Confucius Institute and introduced them to all of the activities launched by that Institute in the year since its establishment. Dr. Shi Wei, Foreign Co-Director of the Institute, held talks with Vice President Ma and other delegates.
At the Council Meeting of Confucius Institute, the Interim Measures for the Institute’s Financial Management System and the Interim Measures concerning the Obligations assumed by Both Foreign and Chinese Co-Directors were discussed and approved by the attendees. Vice President Ma Huaide expressed his hopes that the performance evaluation and tenure system which will bridge the two Co-Directors would be established as soon as possible. He also said he looked forward to Bangor University providing the necessary administrative staff to carry out work as efficiently as possible if any improvements were necessary. He also hoped that the China-EU Legal Forum held by the two universities would grow to become more influential in the future.
