Organized by China-EU School of Law (CESL) at China University of Political Science and Law, co-sponsored by China Law Society (CLS), China Development Bank (CDB), and China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL), the first China-Europe Legal Forum (CELF) was held on October 25th, 2013 at Beijing. Leaders and officials from CLS, CDB and EU attended this meeting. The attendees’ discussion centered around the theme of this session: “enhancing legal communication and promoting economic collaboration”. Almost eighty prestigious scholars from China and Europe attended the Forum.
A number of prestigious speakers gave presentations at the opening ceremony. Speakers included: Ms. Liu Yang, Executive Vice-President of CLS; Mr. Clifford Borg-Marks, Ambassador of the Republic of Malta to China; Mr. Zhang Fusen, Chinese Co-Chair of CESL Joint Managerial Committee (JMC); Dr. Hannes Jarolim, Member of The Austrian Parliament and President of the Chinese-Austrian Law Society; Mr. Wu Jingren, Deputy Chief of Legal Department of China Development Bank; Prof. Hinrich Julius, European Co-Chair of CESL JMC; and Prof. Huang Jin, President of China University of Political Science and Law. The speakers welcomed the conventioneers and wished the forum great success. All of the speakers emphasized the importance of legal communication in China-EU relations and both Mr. Zhang and Prof. Julius noted that “CESL acts as a bridge in our bilateral legal contacts.”
After the opening ceremony, CUPL and CESL entered into the Agreement on Strategy Partner Relations in Legal Diplomacy. Additionally, CESL also signed an Agreement on Internship Placement with CLS.
