In October of 2013, the Governor General of Canada, David Johnston, met with China’s President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang, and signed a number of bilateral cooperation projects on economy, trade and education. And on October 18, in the presence of Governor General David Johnston, CUPL and University of Western Ontario, Canada (UWO) jointly held an opening ceremony of cooperation, which meant the official commencement of the Joint EMBA Advanced Education Program between CUPL Business School and Richard Ivey School of Business under UWO, and the EMBA Degree Program specially designed for the Chinese market will be first launched in August of 2014.
The attendance of Canada’s Governor General fully demonstrated that the Canadian government attaches great importance to the cooperation. In addition, this was also the first occasion that the leader of a Head of State at such a high level has witnessed the launching of Sino-foreign cooperative education projects. Governor General David Johnston stated that the diplomatic developments between Canada and China were not only part of economic diplomacy, but also cultural and educational diplomacy. He also expressed his belief that a key component to the sustainable development of Sino-Canadian relations in the future lies in education and the continuing cultivating of young people. He highly appreciated the “Law and Business Management” feature of the Joint EMBA Advanced Education Program between the two partners, and firmly believed that the launching of such a program would become a milestone in the development of the education industry in China.
