Shi Yajun Leads A Delegation to Taiwan

From December 16 to 21, 2012, CUPL Council Chairperson Prof. Shi Yajun led a delegation to CUPL’s old and new Taiwanese partners including Soochow University, Tunghai University, I-Shou University, Taipei Wego Private Senior High School and China Steel Corporation (CSC). The trip aimed to enhance intercollegiate cooperation potential across the Taiwan Strait, to explore new cooperation models between our university and Taiwan, and to open up new areas of academic exchange. Wu Qiong’en, a Taiwanese professor specially engaged by CUPL, accompanied the visit.

On the morning of December 17, the delegation visited the downtown campus of Soochow University. Pan Weida, Zhao Weiliang, President and Vice-President of Soochow University, as well as other school representatives warmly welcomed the CUPL delegation. Chairperson Shi and President Pan signed an “Academic Exchange Agreement.”
At noon on the same day, Wang Wenjie, Executive Director of the Taiwanese CUPL Alumni Association, held friendly talks with the delegation.
On the afternoon of December 17, the delegation visited the celebrated Taiwan Wego Private Senior High School.

Later that evening, CUPL’s Honorary Doctor, Mr. Guanzhong, entertained the delegation.
On December 18, the delegation went to Taichung. At noon, President of Tunghai University, Prof. Ye Fangbai, entertained the delegation. The two sides discussed establishing a formal partnership and reached a consensus on it.

On December 19, the delegation arrived in Tainan. That evening, President of I-Shou University, Prof. Xiao Jiefu, entertained the delegation, and expressed a willingness to deepen collaboration with CUPL.

On the morning of December 20, Vice President of I-Shou University, Prof. Yan Zhirong, accompanied the delegation to tour the campus. Three exchange postgraduates of CUPL in I-Shou University gave accounts of their study and life there. Shortly afterward, the delegation visited Prof. Fu Shengli, former President and now Honorary President, of I-Shou University.

On the afternoon of December 20, the delegation visited Taiwan’s famous China Steel Corporation.

During this trip, the delegation visited Taipei, Taichung and Tainan. It was a packed itinerary, yet the delegation is deeply impressed by Taiwanese universities’ features, such as school-management methods, innovative thinking, school-enterprise cooperation mode, and the profound sense of friendship between the people across the Taiwan Strait. Through this visit, the two sides deepened cooperation and friendship with broader a vision.
