CUPL Holds Opening Ceremony for the Appointment of Foreign Experts and Overseas Masters

On the afternoon of December 24, 2012, the opening ceremony for the Appointment of Foreign Experts and Overseas Masters Project (AFEOMP) was held at the Xueyuan Lu campus. Nie Ruilin, Director of the Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language and Expert Affairs Division under the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of MOE, Zhu Yong, Vice-President of CUPL, and Prof. Chen Jie, an overseas Master engaged through AFEOMP from the University of Idaho (US), attended the ceremony.

Prof. Chen introduced his academic achievements and research methodologies in political science. So far, he has had six monographs published by Oxford University Press, Harvard University Press, Stanford University Press, and Preagen Press. In addition, he has published a series of academic articles in internationally-renowned journals such as the Quarterly Journal of Political Science, etc. He also introduced the following matters: the general situation of the University of Idaho, and his main jobs in its Graduate School, which he runs. He expressed the idea that he would make a contribution to benefit CUPL via this Project.

Through an overall introduction of the Project, Vice-President Zhu pointed out that, with the full support of the MOE and based on the past implementation of the “Go Global” Strategy, CUPL has gradually increased the level and scale of “Bringing In” overseas experts. The internationally noted scholars employed through AFEOMP visit CUPL for the purpose of academic exchange and cooperation. They not only contribute to the improvement of our faculty and student research and communication skills in an international context, but also play a crucial role in promoting the internationalization of teaching management and administration on our campus. Vice-President Zhu also mentioned that, as an internationally celebrated scholar in political science, Prof. Chen has many research achievements as well as rich teaching experience. As the Dean of the Graduate School of the University of Idaho, Prof. Chen has extensive knowledge of university administration. In order to push forward the implementation of the our internationalization strategy, Vice-President Zhu hoped schools and departments of CUPL should take full advantage of AFEOMP to exchange experience with Prof. Chen regarding academic studies, teaching methods, administration and so on.
