March 8 is International Women's Day. The Confucius Institute of Bangor University held unique cultural activities to mark the special occasion. Students who study Chinese were invited to attend the celebration. Professor Zhang Liying, co-director of Confucius Institute explained the "feminine elements" in Chinese characters. She also exhibited various styles of Chinese minority women's clothing and its characteristics, as well as the customs of China's ethnic minority women to her audience.
Soon afterwards, under the guidance of Professor Zhang Liying and the Chinese teacher Ms. Li Yan, each attendee wrote down three Chinese Characters :”Funü Jie (Women’s Day)”, using writing brush. Some students were curious and wished to try on the Chinese minority women's clothing. Meanwhile, fans and swords became poplar dancing props for those in attendance.
