Thanks to a team effort, the Confucius Institute at Bangor University has recruited over 60 students to learn Chinese just in five months since its establishment. In 2013, the Confucius Institute of Bangor University entered the 12th Chinese Bridge Competition sponsored by Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters) and the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy in UK. After the preliminaries, a German major student named Matt who emerged as the winner and went to London to attend the quarterfinal as a representative of the Institute.
Although Matt did not achieve his ultimate goal of making his way into the finals, everyone considers him as a hero at heart. The result is not the most important thing. Participation, communication, and making friends are the biggest gains, which are also the initial intentions of the Chinese Bridge Competition.
