On the afternoon of March 26, 2013, at the Xueyuan Lu Campus, President Huang Jin met with Mr. Guy Breton, Rector of University of Montreal (UdeM), Ms. Hélène David, Vice Rector of that university, and six other UdeM delegates. UdeM is one of CUPL's strategic cooperative partners in Canada.

President Huang attached great importance to cooperation with UdeM and expressed appreciation for the close collaboration between the two universities in fields such as student exchange, the summer program, LL.M. program, the cultivation of doctoral candidates, teacher exchange and cooperative studies over the last ten years. He emphasized that in addition to jurisprudence, there is a wider cooperative space available for the two universities to explore. He also hoped that Mr. Breton’s visit will further advance cooperation in fields such as the humanities and social sciences.

Mr. Breton also expressed that UdeM has always regarded CUPL among its most important cooperative partners. In order to further promote the cooperation between the two universities in other capacities, under the direction of Mr. Breton, delegates from the Faculties of Law, Arts and Science, and Medicine each gave brief introductions in their fields and envisioned the benefits of expanding cooperation between the two universities. Next, Wen Bing, Dean of CUPL’s School of Humanities, and Kong Qingjiang, Dean of CUPL’s School of International Law, took turns providing basic introductions and information about their Schools, and positively responded to the cooperative suggestions put forward by their Canadian counterparts.

During the meeting, representatives of both sides also signed the new Agreement on Undergraduate Exchange Program. According to the Agreement, both sides agreed to apply for the International Exchange Program for Excellent Undergraduate Students set by China Scholarship Council (CSC) as soon as possible. The purpose of that arrangement is to assist excellent CUPL undergraduates in need of financial assistance to conduct short-term study and exchange in Canada.

At the end of the talks a ceremony was held appointing Mr. Breton as an honorary CUPL professor in appreciation for the great contribution he has made for the present comprehensive, multidisciplinary, close and friendly cooperation existing between the two universities.
