On the afternoon of April 10, 2013, at Changping Campus, President Huang Jin met with Mr. Markus Ederer, EU Ambassador to China, and five other delegation members.

President Huang considered Ambassador Markus Ederer's visit as a new opportunity to promote the work of the China-EU School of Law (CESL). He hoped that both China and the European Union could enhance mutual trust, respect, and closely conduct consultations on the basis of equality and cooperate with one another. He also expressed his hopes that the two sides would continue to remain student-oriented and focus on the training of legal talents with a thorough knowledge of both western and Chinese laws. Both sides are motivate by the goal of making CESL an important platform and a bridge for China-EU legal education, legal studies, exchange and cooperation in the area of humanities.

Ambassador Markus Ederer remarked that the European Union has already approved the extension of the first phase of CESL project, and would give continual energetic support to the second phase of the project after 2015. He hoped that, viewing the program from a long-term perspective, both sides should draft practical plans for the second phase of the project, and even for a permanent arrangement in the future. He expressed the hope that CESL could be a flagship program in the fields of legal education, law studies and talent training between the EU and China. Meanwhile, it can also act as an important platform for China-EU dialogue on topics concerning the Rule of Law.

Soon afterwards, Ambassador Markus Ederer was invited to attend CUPL's Ambassador Forum. Mr. Ambassador gave a wonderful speech titled "European History: How the Rule of Law Have Shaped European Union" for our teachers and students.
