On September 11, 2012 (18:00 p.m., GMT, September 10), the unveiling ceremony for the Confucius Institute co-established by Bangor University and CUPL was held on the former's campus. President Huang Jin led a delegation to attend the ceremony and delivered a warm speech.
The Confucius Institute of Bangor University is the first overseas Confucius Institute established by CUPL with the support of Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters). Its aims are to popularize the Chinese Language internationally and promote cultural exchange. The center is also the world's first Confucius Institute stressing legal culture. Dispatched by CUPL, Prof. Zhang Liying, Dean of the International Law School, was appointed as the first Chinese-appointed dean.
Before the ceremony, President Huang Jin met with Vice Chancellor of Bangor University, Prof. John Hughes, the Chief Justice of English & Walsh High Court, Sir John Thomas, the First Minister of Welsh Government, Mr. Carwyn Jones, and Minister-Counsellor of the Education Section of China Embassy in UK, Mr. Shenyang. After the ceremony, the two universities signed the "Implementation Agreement on the Joint-Establishment of the Confucius Institute of Bangor University".
More than a hundred representatives from all walks of life, honored guests and deputies of other Confucius Institutes attended the ceremony. During the evening celebration, the famous calligrapher, Prof. Sun He from the School of Humanities gave a live performance of the broad and profound art of calligraphy, earning a burst of warm applause from the audience.
The CUPL delegation also attended the "Chinese Culture Week" held by the Confucius Institute of Bangor University. President Huang Jin, Professor Wang Weiguo, Dean of the Civil, Commercial and Economic Law School, as well as Associate Prof. Wang Tianzheng from the School of Journalism each gave a speech at the "Chinese Culture Week–China Forum".
