Former President of the European Commission, Former Italian Prime Minister,Mr. Romano Prodi visited our university

In December 9th, Mr. Romano Prodi, Former President of the European Commission, Former Italian Prime Minister, Professor of University of Bologna, visited our university and delivered a splendid speech to our students and teachers.

President Huang Jin and Mr. Romano Prodi had met in Italy while President Huang headed a formal visit to six European top universities in late October this year.

Before the speech began, President Huang Jin had a friendly conversation with Mr. Prodi, and gave a brief introduction about CUPL’s history, development, discipline advantages, and efforts made for becoming the top university in law. He also mentioned our China-EU Law School (CESL), said CESL is a big achievement of the University’s international exchange and cooperation work.

President Huang Jin indicated that CUPL, as the research center of Italian Law and Roman Law for more than twenty years’ time, had cultivated a great amount of researchers, who are working for the Italian and Roman Law research. CUPL keeps a good long-term partnership and high level collaboration module with University of Bologna, University of Roman I, University of Roman II, and etc.

Mr. Prodi expressed the happiness not only for being in CUPL as he promised in October to President Huang Jin, especially for the face-to-face communication with the university’s students. He said the communication between both people and academic fields will benefit both, and will finally give the significant responsibility to the young. Therefore, he hoped that CUPL and universities of Italy and EU could strengthen the cooperation for better development.

After the meeting, Mr. Prodi was firstly showed around the university campus, and then invited to deliver a splendid and brilliant speech on “EU: the Museum of History or a Lab for Future ? ”.
