The Ukrainian Cultural Day at CUPL

Ukrainian Cultural Day at The China University of Political Science & Law was successfully conducted in the library of our Changping campus by CUPL and The Embassy of Ukraine in China in the afternoon of March 28.

Before the Cultural Day opening ceremony, CUPL President Huang Jin warmly met the ambassador Kostenko Yurii and his wife , the famous Ukrainian poet, Ms Skyrda Liudmyla. During the meeting CUPL President Huang Jin welcomed Mr. Kostenko Yurii to his return visit to our university. He expressed his delight at being able to hold the cultural day together with the Embassy of Ukraine in China and hoped there would be further steps taken to strengthen the cooperation between them through this event. Mr. Kostenko Yurii said the Embassy of Ukraine in China and our university has developed a sound cooperation through the years. He expressed hope that our university and the higher educational institutes in Ukraine would develop further academic cooperation and exchanges.

The cultural day included: the founder of modern literature in Ukraine, the famous poet and artist Taras Shevchenko, and the famous poet, wife of the ambassador, Ms Skyrda Liudmyla signed a book and presented it as a gift. Also included was an exhibition of handicrafts and other items. At the opening ceremony, Huang Jin representing the CUPL and Ambassador Kostenko Yurii representing the Embassy of Ukraine in China presented speeches and performed a ribbon-cutting ceremony. For this event, the Ukrainians had also carefully selected a number of books on Ukraine culture, art and life etc., as a gift to our university.

Moreover, the famous Ukrainian poet, wife of the ambassador, Ms Skyrda Liudmyla spoke about her inspirations on poetry writing and her love for Chinese culture. During that time, the students enthusiastically asked questions, and a student, Zou Wenbo also read out a poem to the piano accompaniment of another student, Liu Xiaochen.

After the opening ceremony, CUPL President Huang Jin and Ambassador Kostenko Yurii and others visited Taras Shevchenko’s art exhibition and the Ukraine handicraft exhibition. Ms Liudmyla also signed and presented the first translated anthology of Chinese poems – ‘The breath of China’ to the teachers and students of our university.
