On the afternoon of the 22nd of December, Vice President Zhu Yong met Professor Richard H S Tur of the University of Oxford, England, who had come at our invitation, and presented a letter of appointment as Honorary Professor to Professor Tur on behalf of the university.
Vice President Zhu Yong, in extending a warm welcome to Professor Tur, also expressed his gratitude and admiration for all of his many years of work and contribution towards the CUPL Office of International Cooperation and Exchange. In regard to these six years of the summer program of Oxford University and the CUPL, as well as the program for undergraduate degrees, Vice President Zhu said that it has not only benefitted many hundreds of undergraduate and Master’s degree students but has also encouraged and motivated other students at the CUPL. At the same time, the successful model of the Oxford University’s summer program has also given our university valuable experience for holding similar programs. He also commended Professor Tur for helping CUPL to obtain sources of overseas funds and for his meticulous arrangement and organisation of the activities for the study program. The CUPL especially awarded him the title of Honorary Professor. In expressing his appreciation for being appointed Honorary Professor of the CUPL, Professor Tur also mentioned how the work ethic and good moral standards of our university’s students have made a deep impression on him. He expressed his hope that the two universities would be able to take further steps forward in cooperating to create learning opportunities for more outstanding university law students. Those who attended the ceremony, also included Deputy Director Ban Wenzhan and Deputy Director Zhang Wei from the Research Centre for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, the Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee for Masters students, Li Shuguang, the Deputy Head of Department for the student office, Gao Xiaoguang, the Head of Department of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Xu Lan.
That evening, Professor Tur also gave our students a lecture on the subject of the Influence and Prospects of England’s ‘Bill of Human Rights 1998’. This Friday evening (26th) Professor Tur will deliver a lecture for undergraduate students on “Law Through film – ‘A Man for All Seasons’ ”, at the Changping campus.
