Times Higher Education Delegation Visits CUPL

On 10 May, CUPL President Huang Jin met with Mr. Justin Tay, Asia Region Director & Executive Manager of Times Higher Education and Ms. Joyce Chee, China Region Deputy, at the Xueyuanlu Campus.

President Huang extended a warm welcome to the guests and briefed them about the history, missions, disciplines, faculty, programs and international cooperation of CUPL, in particular CUPL’s extraordinary achievements in legal education as well as its significant contributions to  advancement of the rule of law in China. President Huang said that CUPL had attached great importance to international rankings on education, including the Times Higher Education Rankings, and he wished to accelerate the “Double World-Class University Construction” and the internationalization strategies of CUPL and facilitate CUPL to become a world-class university through its participation in the World University Rankings of Times Higher Education.

Justin Tay appreciated President Huang’s introduction and gave full recognition to our University’s leading academic role in law and progresses in international cooperation. He also said the Times Higher Education attached importance to its cooperation with CUPL, and that the Times Higher Education would optimize data collection and evaluation of universities in Asia and develop a new evaluation system which could highlight the advantages of Asian Universities in the future. Then, Joyce Chee made a detailed introduction of the history of the Times Higher Education, the World University Rankings, data rankings analysis, a data-based analysis of CUPL and provided several pertinent suggestions to the international development of CUPL. CUPL participants from of different offices also had a full exchange of ideas with them on data-collecting mechanism, authenticity of data sources and index evaluation methods.

Both parties reached a consensus that CUPL would participate in the 2019 THE World University Rankings. Relevant data collections will be initiated in the near future.

Prof. Zhang Liying, Dean of the School of International Studies, Du Xueliang, Deputy Director of the Research Office, Liu Kunlun, Deputy Director of Research and Evaluation Center of Legal Education, Lv Yong, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, and Tang Yan, Chief of the Programme Division of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office also attended the meeting.
