Council Chair Mr. Hu Ming Signes Cooperation Agreement with President of Eötvös Loránd Tudom á nyegyetem, Hungary

In the afternoon of July 5, Prof. Hu Ming, CUPL Council Chair, had a friendly meeting with President László Borhy of Eötvös Loránd Tudom á nyegyetem (ELTE), Hungary, Vice President of International Relationship, Imre Hamar, and Director of Hungary-Sino Office, Ye Qiuyue.

Prof. Hu Ming first extended his warm welcome on behalf of CUPL to President László Borhy for his first visit. Prof. Hu then reviewed the friendly cooperation and communication between the two universities in the previous years and briefed the delegation about CUPL. Prof. Hu said that CUPL, as a national key university with the mission of cultivating high quality talents in the field of Law, had been praised as “the top law school in China”. Over the past 60 years, CUPL has developed law discipline as its advantage, while facilitating the coordinated of multiple other disciplines. CUPL had made outstanding contributions in promoting China’s advancement of the rule of law and the national development strategy. In particular, Prof. Hu introduced President Xi Jinping’s visit to CUPL on 3rd May, 2017. Mr. Hu pointed that Hungary was an important country along the Belt and Road Initiatives, ELTE was one of the cooperation partners of the China-Europa Law School of CUPL (CESOL). Prof. Hu hoped that, with the signing of this Academic Exchange Agreement and with the previous Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), CUPL and ELTE would explore cooperation potential in deeper and boarder areas in future. László Borhy expressed his pleasure of visiting CUPL and his confidence for the broad prospect of future cooperation. He praised the fruitful achievement and advantages of CUPL especially in the field of law talents cultivation. Then, he gave a detailed introduction of the programs and advantages of ELTE. President László Borhy emphasized that ELTE was the top university in Hungary and even among Central-East Europe countries. The Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Law, two faculties that establish cooperative relationship with CUPL, enjoy hundreds years of history and prestigious reputation in Hungary and Central-East Europe. President of Hungary in office as well as Prime Minister of Hungary in office are both alumni of ELTE. President Borhy recognized the advice proposed by Council Chair Hu Ming about observing national strategies and strengthening the cooperation in key disciplines between the two universities. He wished the visit could help to promote more practical cooperation and to invite more CUPL teachers and students to study and do research in ELTE.

After the meeting, the two parties signed the Academic Exchange Agreement.

Prof. Xue Xiaojian, Vice Dean of School of Law, CUPL, Mr. Lyu Yong, Deputy Director of CUPL Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Prof. Cui Linlin, Director of the Legal History Research Center as well as Director of the BRI Legal Research Center, and Ms. Pan Shan, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the School of Humanities, CUPL, attended the meeting as well.
