The 13th Confucius Institute Conferencewas held in Chengdu of China from December 4 to 5.Themed on “Facilitating New Development through Reform and Innovation, Forging a Brighter Future with Concerted Efforts”,the conference invited over 1500 people,including college and university presidents and representatives of Confucius Institutesfrom 154 countries and regions, to engage in the discussion on such issues as how topromote Chinese overseas teaching and cultural exchanges.Vice-Premier Sun Chunlan, Board Chair of Directors of Headquarter of Confucius Institutes, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.CUPL President Huang Jin was invited to attended the conference.
At the conference, CUPL was awarded the “Outstanding Chinese Cooperative Institution” together with nine Chinese universities.Tian Xuejun, Vice Minister of Educationawarded outstanding Confucius Institutes individuals and Chinese cooperative institutions. CUPL President Huang Jin received the award on behalf of the university.This is the first time that CUPL has been awarded as “Outstanding Chinese Cooperative Institution”after the two overseas Confucius Institutes co-operated by CUPL and foreign partners won the title of “Global Confucius Institute of the Year” in 2017.

At the Forum of Presidents, President Huang Jin was invited to attend and chair the parallel session on“Establishing the Evaluation System and Exit Mechanism”.President Huang Jin also delivered a keynote speech on“Establishing the Evaluation System and Exit Mechanismof Confucius Institutes” and had an exchange of views onthe principles, methods and mechanisms of the Confucius Institute's evaluation and exit with the conference participants.

During the conference, President Huang Jin also held work talks with Murcia Dumitru, President of University of Bucharest, Eudine Barriteau, Presidents ofUniversity of the WestIndies, Cave Hill, as well as directors from the Confucius Institutes at Bangor University, at University of Bucharest, at University of the WestIndies, Cave Hill and others. During the talks, PresidentHuang Jin pointed out that this meeting was “a big family party” of all the Confucius Institutes co-established by CUPL as avaluable opportunity for Chinese and foreign partners to gather together for the sharing and exchange of ideas. He thanked both Chinese and foreign directors for their great contributions and expressed his gratitude to the foreign universities for their support to theConfucius Institutes. President Huang Jin proposed an establishment of the League of the Confucius Institutes co-established by CUPL in the near future.The parties conducted in-depth exchanges on the relevant work of the Confucius Institutes.
