The opening ceremony was moderated by Prof. Xu Lan, Director of the Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs, CUPL.

On behalf of CUPL, Prof. Shi Jianzhong first extended a warm welcome to the guests and students of law from Hong Kong attending the ceremony. He then introduced the disciplines of CUPL and highlighted the international development of CUPL and the university’s educational exchanges with Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in the past year. He reviewed the fruitful results of the Summer Internship Camp for Students of Law from Hong Kong over the past 12 years, and thanked relevant departments for their support. He raised three hopes for the students: First, he hoped that the students could take this opportunity to walk, find and listen more, and feel the great achievements of the reform, opening up, and modernization of the motherland. Second, he hoped that the students could observe the Chinese society from multiple angles, reflect upon the relationship between Hong Kong and the Mainland, adapt their professional advantages to serve the development of Hong Kong and the country. Third, he hoped that everyone could take this opportunity to get acquainted with more young people from the Mainland and become active participants and promoters of exchanges between Hong Kong and the mainland.

In Zhou Jun’s speech, he shared four key words in the historical background of reform and opening up and the overall national development. The first key word was “gratitude”. Without reform and opening up and the implementation of the “One Country, Two Systems” policy, there wouldn’t have been such frequent exchanges and interactions between Hong Kong and the Mainland. The second keyword was “cherish”. He hoped that students could cherish this precious learning and communication opportunity. The third keyword was “inclusive”. Students should look at the economic, political and cultural systems and customs in the Mainland with a more open and inclusive attitude. The fourth key word was “integration”. All walks of life should take the opportunity of exchange and communication to further promote Hong Kong's integration into the overall development of the country.

Yu Xuejie, in his speech, said that promoting exchanges between the Mainland and Hong Kong was one of the important duties of LOCPG HK. He pointed out that Hong Kong students lacked a certain understanding of the mainland legal system and hoped that a better platform for exchanges between the Mainland and Hong Kong will be established in the future, so that Hong Kong students can learn more about the legal and judicial systems with Chinese characteristics and communicate on the basis of equal interaction. Through this, he hoped that more favorable conditions for more Hong Kong students to work in the Mainland would be created. He hoped that through the joint efforts of the Mainland and Hong Kong, more contributions will be made to the great cause of “One Country, Two Systems”.

Shao Xinfa, in his speech, first expressed his gratitude to the Legal Education Fund of Hong Kong for its support to the Summer Internship Camp for Students of Law from Hong Kong. He said that the internship summer camp is a valuable chance for the students. He hopes that the students can cherish this learning opportunity, understand and explore how the legal system in the Mainland reflects fairness, justice and righteousness, and get to understand the world through different angles.

After the opening ceremony, guests and Hong Kong law students attending the ceremony took photos in front of the Scientific Research Building.
