On October 21, 2019, the 6th Study Abroad Fair for 2020/21 Scholarship Master Programs was successfully held at the Changping Campus and the Xueyuanlu Campus of CUPL respectively. The event was attended by 35 representatives from 25 partner universities in 12 countries, including Université de Montréal, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Southern California, Pennsylvania State University, University of California, Irvine, University of Leeds, University of Exeter, University College Dublin, Goethe University Frankfurt, International University in Spain, University of Sydney, Waseda University, etc. Over 400 faculty and students  of CUPL participated in the event.

With active development and expansion in recent years, the “Study Abroad Fair for Scholarship Master Programs” has become one of the important platforms for the cultivation of high-caliber international talents in CUPL. It has not only gained wide recognition and attention from faculty and students of CUPL, but has also enjoyed an increasing influence at home and abroad. Through this program, students who apply for master degree programs and JD programs in overseas partner universities may enjoy tuition fee reduction, grants and scholarships. The areas of study cover law, political science, public management, etc. So far, under this program, CUPL has established partnership with 51 universities and schools, providing up to 67 study abroad programs for its students. The 6th scholarship fair was organized for this year’s graduates and currently enrolled postgraduates who are planning to go overseas to pursue master's degree program in the academic year of 2020 and 2021. By establishing a platform for face-to-face communication, CUPL hopes to help students pursue overseas master degrees in prestigious universities. The application for relevant programs will be launched in early November.

At the opening ceremony of the event held at the Xueyuanlu Campus, Prof. Xu Lan, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges, warmly welcomed the representatives of overseas partner universities to CUPL. She then introduced the latest progresses of CUPL, and pointed out the three highlights of this year’s program:

First, continuous optimization of partners. One the one hand, CUPL strives to do addition, i.e. enhancing the attractiveness of the program and lifting the level of partnership. The number of partner universities from top 200 universities in QS World University Rankings increased to 28; on the other hand, the university also makes efforts to do subtraction, actively suspending programs with poor performance.

Second, extension of activities. For the first time, the event was held simultaneously in two campuses, which not only makes it convenient for students living in two campuses to participate, but also improves the efficiency and coverage of the program.

Third, introduction of the information briefing session for the first time. The information briefing session was introduced this year before the opening of the fair, at which the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange of CUPL provided a briefing of the overall situation of the programs, the application process, and some tips so that the students can have more targeted communication by raising specific questions during subsequent interaction with representatives from partner universities. Prof. Xu Lan hoped that CUPL and its international partners will continue to work together and tap into the potential of cooperation, and further enhance the in-depth bilateral and multilateral cooperation in leading disciplines and emerging interdisciplinary studies, so as to achieve mutual benefit and common development, promote the advancement of the “Double-First Class” program in CUPL, and achieve the goal of becoming an open, innovative, international, top law university with multiple disciplines in the world.

After that, Dr. Luo Wei from the Washington University in St. Louis, USA, spoke on behalf of guests from foreign universities. He highly praised the CUPL students for the professional quality, outstanding research ability, excellent academic performance and high passing rate of American Bar examination. He said that today, the economic, cultural, and educational exchanges between China and the United States are facing a huge test. Washington University in St. Louis would always uphold its own education philosophy and encourage more Chinese students and scholars, including students and faculty from CUPL, to come to the United States for study or engaging in scientific researches. At last, he said that over the past few decades, a large number of outstanding Chinese students have come to the United States to study law, receive legal training, and engage in legal researches, which not only promoted mutual-learning and exchanges between China and the United States in the field of law, but also greatly facilitated the cultural and educational exchanges between the two countries, making significant contributions to the stability of international relations as well as economic and trade development. Dr. Luo sincerely hoped that CUPL students can cherish the opportunity to make an early plan and realize their dreams.

During the subsequent communication, representatives from overseas partner universities gave face-to-face introductions to CUPL students on the advantages, characteristics, application requirements, scholarships, etc., of their respective programs, and took questions from the students. In addition, CUPL also set up booths for more than ten partner universities/institutions that are absent from this fair but has attracted a large number of applicants over the years, including Georgetown university, National University of Singapore, NG Teng Fong Charitable Foundation, David and Jayne Paterson Educational Trust and so on. Alumni from previous programs were also invited to the booths to share their experience of studying abroad and program application.

The event was sponsored by the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Office of Hongkong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs, and co-organized by the Study Abroad Service Center of CUPL. The University Office, Publicity Department and Security Office of CUPL also provided great support to this event.
