Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director for the Asia Pacific Region of the European External Action Service and His Delegation Visit CUPL

In the afternoon of October 25, at the Xueyuanlu Campus, Vice President Shi Jianzhong met with Gunnar Wiegand, Managing Director for the Asia Pacific Region of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Philipp Oliver Gross, Head of Political Section of EU Delegation in China, Abigael Vasselier, Official of EEAS and Sakura Moretto, Principal of the Cooperation Section of EU Delegation in China.

Vice President Shi Jianzhong extended his welcome to Gunnar Wiegand and his delegation. On behalf of CUPL, he thanked the Chinese government and the EU for their support and assistance since the establishment of the China-EU School of Law (CESL) in 2008. He said, over the past 11 years, through the close cooperation of all parties, the student quality, reputation and employment prospect of CUPL have been significantly improved, playing a unique role as a bridge in China-EU legal education and cultural exchanges. He hoped to get continuous concern and support from the governments of both parties to build CESL into one of the global China-EU legal education centers.

Gunnar Wiegand first expressed his appreciation for the warm reception and expressed his great pleasure to visit CUPL. Then he had an in-depth exchange with the representatives and expressed his satisfaction with the stronger influence of CESL. At last he hoped both parties could cherish the good reputation accumulated over the years and make continuous efforts to build CESL a highlight in China-EU cooperation.

In addition, the two parties also held a friendly discussion on the short-term plan and future development of CESL. Liu Fei, Chinese Co-Dean of CESL, Bengt Lundell, Eu Co-Dean of CESL, Ronald Montague Silley, EU Executive Dean of CESL, Mr. Lyu Yong, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and Prof.Zhu Weiyi of CUPL also attended the meeting.
