Council Chair Hu Ming Attends the Inauguration Ceremony of CUPL Alumni Association (Japan) and Visits Japanese and Korean partners

From December 15 to 21, 2019, Prof. Hu Ming, Council Chair CUPL, led a delegation to attend the Inauguration Ceremony of CUPL Alumni Association (Japan), the 2019 Alumni Meeting in Korea, and visited prestigious universities in Japan and South Korea, including Waseda University, Hitotsubashi University, Seoul National University and Korea University. The delegation also included Lu Shaohua, Director of the Alumni Office, Secretary-General of CUPL Alumni Association, Wang Zhenfeng, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School, Xu Lan, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and Chen Jingshan, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of CUPL.

On December 15, the CUPL Alumni Association (Japan) was established in Tokyo, and Council Chair Hu Ming attended the inauguration ceremony on behalf of CUPL and delivered a congratulatory speech. He said that after nearly a year of careful preparations, the establishment of the Japan Alumni Association of CUPL embodied the wisdom and hard work of CUPL alumni in Japan, and would serve as an important platform to unite CUPL alumni, to promote the spirit of the university, to spread the culture of the university, and to facilitate common development. In recent years, following the philosophy of “serving the state and the government, and advancing the rule of law”, CUPL has always insisted on implementing the fundamental task of cultivating talents and on shouldering the responsibility of “guiding China’s legal education in the new era and cultivating high-caliber legal talents”. Alumni are valuable assets and important resources, as well as significant demonstrations of the quality education of CUPL. Prof. Hu hoped that the Alumni Association (Japan) would successfully promote friendships of alumni in Japan, boost cooperation between countries and regions, and make more contributions in promoting the long-term friendly relations between China and Japan and in advancing the rule of law in the world.

While in Japan, the delegation visited Hitotsubashi University, Waseda University, and Doshisha University. The two sides held in-depth exchanges of views on topics such as deepening existing cooperation in the field of law, expanding academic exchanges in other fields, expanding the scale of undergraduate exchange programs, master's and doctoral degree programs and joint training programs, and enhancing mutual visits of teachers.

On December 20, Council Chair Hu Ming led the delegation to attend the 2019 CUPL Alumni Association (South Korea) Annual Meeting of in Seoul. More than 30 CUPL alumni in South Korea attended the annual meeting. The ceremony was moderated by Li Xiangmo, Secretary General of the Association and Director of Translation Office of Korea Legislation Research Institute (KLRI). Wei Guanghe, Chair of the Association and Judge of Seoul High Court, delivered a summary of the work of the Alumni Association in 2019. On behalf of the university, Council Chair Hu fully affirmed the achievements of the Alumni Association (South Korea) as a bridge and bond and relevant works since its establishment. The association has served as a platform for career growth, expanded the influence of CUPL in South Korea, and formed a sound relations between the university and alumni. He also encouraged CUPL alumni to work actively, to carry forward the spirit of the university, and to continue to add glory to the university.


While in Korea, the delegation visited Seoul University, Asian University, and Korea University. The CUPL delegation and partner universities in South Korea University exchanged opinions and reached consensus on consolidating and strengthening bilateral cooperation in advantageous disciplines, and on expanding exchanges in other humanities and social sciences disciplines.

This visit is of great significance to promoting the “Double First-Tier” program of CUPL. It also helped optimize the layout of high-level university partners around the world, consolidate the strength of overseas alumni, and effectively enhance the popularity and influence of CUPL in Asia.
